What is Primordial Sound Meditation

Primordial Sound Meditation, or PSM, is a healing practice that allows us to experience inner calm and deep relaxation. Meditation has been used for thousand’s of years to help alleviate the business of the mind and to bring about peace, equanimity, gratitude, and an increased sense of awareness.

Each generation is faced with their own challenge and one that we face today is the level of connection that we have. People of all ages are connected with their tablets, smart phones, computers, and watches all of which are constantly providing notifications of emails, calendar events, text messages, news alerts, etc. This non-stop barrage of information provides dopamine to our brain and causes an endless supply of energy which in-turn results in a difficult time for us to truly disconnect, be with our loved ones, and be with ourselves in a healing way. This lack of oneness or true, person-to-person connectedness increases our stress, anxiety, and can create chronic health problems and insomnia. One of the most direct methods of experiencing peace and inner silence is through meditation. Meditation, as I’ve written on before, is not about sitting on a mountain top for years by yourself seeking enlightenment. The journey is much simpler than that, and can be done almost anywhere and almost at anytime - more importantly, no special tools are needed.

Scientific research continues to show that when you meditate you begin to experience many benefits:

  • a decrease in heart rate

  • a decrease in respiratory rate

  • a decrease in stress hormones, like cortisol

  • a decrease in blood pressure

  • and that your digestion may increase or decrease as your body needs (when you are in a fight/flight response, your digestion actually ceases which can result in other chronic conditions)

Primordial Sound Meditation is not about forcing your mind to be quiet, rather it’s about experiencing what is already there and integrating it into your life. It’s there, in the stillness of your mind that you can have access to your inner stillness, relaxation, and calmness.

Primordial Sounds & Mantras

There are multitudes of methods and styles to meditate. The Primordial Sound Meditation, is a powerful meditation technique rooted in the Vedic tradition of India. As you learn PSM, you will receive a personal mantra. The mantra is a specific sound or vibration and is repeated silently, which helps you enter into deeper levels of awareness.

The mantra that you receive is said to have been the vibration that the universe was creating at the time and place of your birth, and it is calculated following Vedic mathematic formulas.
